OMG, it's a journal entry!  Well, I do have some cool news to share, so here you go...

New Online Store Launch!

The big news is that I just launched a new online store.  In it you will find two recent originals that I created for Japan earthquake and tsunami relief charity events. The proceeds from both of these will be donated to Give2Asia, via their Artists Help Japan partnership.

Click Here to Visit the Store: michalwisniowski.storenvy.com/

As someone whose work is so heavily inspired by Japanese culture, the recent events have affected me deeply and I felt compelled to try and contribute in whatever small a way.

Email Newsletter

In conjunction with the store launch I also sent out an email announcement via my newsletter about it.  I know that several of you are on that mailing list, so apologies for posting what you already know about.  If however, you are not on the list and would like to receive the newsletter (I promise that I won't flood your inbox), you can sign up for it here: eepurl.com/dAwTX

Grad School

So in other news, I will be going to grad school this fall.  I got accepted to the San Francisco Art Institute and will be going for my MFA in painting.  After having the opportunity to check out the campus and facilities, I am super excited to get my hands dirty with some serious art projects!

Since I only seem to update this darn thing once a year, a lot has happened that I won't go into.  Here are some of 2010's highlights...

Gone West

What an incredible year it has been.  Filled with the best of time and the worst of times.  Although it is not yet over, the holidays have a way of speeding the last few months along quite effectively.  This is in part why I have begun reflecting on all the crazy things that have transpired in the last year of this decade, bringing to a close a ten-year period of growth both fruitful and (at times) painful.

The most significant of these changes came about as I traded the East Coast for the West, embarking on a several-month long journey along the Northern route of the U.S.  My most memorable stops were in Chicago, Mt. Rushmore, and Seattle, before culminating in a much anticipated resettlement in the San Francisco bay area. Read the full post here... www.mentisworks.org/2010/11/bi…

Bay Area Art Scene(ery)

Three months in the bay is a short time, yet it feels like I have been here twice as long at least.  In those three months I have been fortunate enough to experience some really great artwork both in the city and the East Bay. During the first weekend here I got a little glimpse of some great pieces at a gallery in Oakland's river-walk area.

A few weeks later, after a fun day with new artist-friends at Alternative Press Expo, we were going trough the Mission admiring all the great street art in those awesome alleyways. Towards the end of our little trek we finally found the Banksy we were looking for! Read the full post here... www.mentisworks.org/2010/11/in…

Aniwave 2010

So, Aniwave 2010 was the first without me at the helm.  It took place in Novemeber, and appears to have been a huge success!  In this instance, success is measured by attendance and this year's attendance seems to have hit close to 430!!!  That's amazing growth compared to the previous year's optimistic estimate of 150.  Check out the great StarNews article on Aniwave here... www.starnewsonline.com/article…

The Almighty Dunny Show

Right before Thanksgiving I sent my newly painted 3 inch Dunny to New York for The Almighty Dunny Show.  Curated by Genuine Artikle and hosted at Halcyon in Dumbo Brooklyn, the exhibition opens on December 11th. Read the full post here... www.mentisworks.org/2010/11/al…

Twisting Tales with Aki-Yamashima

Aki's drawing shows a level of skill that many do not develop until well into their undergraduate studies in illustration, or later.  This is especially evident in her upcoming manga TWISTED, which I am excited to bring you a short preview of here.  These initial pages prompted a conversation between Aki and I in which she shares some details about the project and her inspiration behind it.  Read the full interview here... www.mentisworks.org/2010/12/tw…

Aniwave '09 Rocked!
Hellz to the yeah!  Aniwave 2009 was damn sweet you guys!  Thanks for coming out (you know who you are :w00t:)!!  We more than doubled our attendance from last year, and the dance party finale was super fun ^_^.  I'll try to do a more detailed post-mortem blog post on this at some point.  In the meantime, check out all the Facebook photo albums...

Toy Show @ Cameron Art Museum

On Thursday, November 12, at 7:00 pm the Toying with Art: Toys Designed by Artists exhibition opens at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington.  I am super exited about this show, in large part because Nikki and I both made toys that will be on display!  Check out my submission on DA here... mentisworks.deviantart.com/art… read more about the exhibit via the Mentisworks blog... www.mentisworks.org/2009/11/ar…

Coloring Stories for Conscious Children

We are also finally launching the two volume coloring book called Coloring Stories for Conscious Children on Sunday, November 22, at 2:00 pm.  The launch and book signing will take place downtown Wilmington at Old Books on Front St.  It's been almost two years since this project started, and met with many delays, but it's finally coming to fruition ^_^.  Check out the Facebook event page here... www.facebook.com/event.php?eid… to see you at the signing if you can make it!

Coming Soon

Because we have been dealing with several family crises, first with Nikki going to the hospital, and now my mother being in the hospital, some of the new projects have been put on hold.  However, I am still doing the holiday art show at Parallelogram.  Presents with open there on November 27, at 6:00 pm.  If I remember, I will post another journal before then with more info.  Until then, "stay classy San Diego!"

I's Back

Holy backlog Batman!  Things happened, I got busy, or lazy, or both, and been neglecting my DA account.  One of those times when I really wish DA was easier to manage, had email notifications, etc.  Spent the last few hours rummaging through 250+ deviations, and 150+ messages.  Ugh.  Note to self, do not wait three months next time to clean notifications!

I would also like to give a big thanks to simoneyvette for the sub.  this was one of the prizes I got for winning first place in the traditional category of my-dark-desire's Creativity Contest... my-dark-desire.deviantart.com/…
Thanks to everyone else for their awesome contributions.  I love the print I received from snowunmasked of moonywolf's gorgeous painting...

Art Shows Galore

Part of why things have been so busy, is because I gots a lot of art shows coming up.  Two openings this Friday (25th) in Wilmington.  Another group show in Syracuse, NY next month.  Then I have to take all of [peripheral/interface] to Virginia in November, as well as finish my toy for the show at the Cameron Art Museum that same month.  And as if that weren't enough, I'm in at least one (possibly two) holiday shows in December!  Yikes!

Here's more info about those shows, and where the openings are held this week... www.mentisworks.org/2009/09/pl…

Second Edition

Managed to update my art book and make the Second Edition available for purchase here... www.lulu.com/content/paperback…

The second edition contains updated images of four pieces already in the book, and I have added two more paintings not in the original edition.  Redesigned the cover, but the price is still the same!  Yay!  This also means that the original edition is now a limited version because no more of that will be printed.  With only 30 copies ever made of the original edition, it is now a hawt collectorz item! >_<

Aniwave is Coming!

That's right.  This year's Aniwave festival is less than a month away.  Add that to all the other craziness, and I've got a super busy rest of the year.  You can now find Aniwave on Facebook... www.facebook.com/pages/Aniwave… ...so be our fan!

We have a great line up this year, more cosplay, photo shooting, food, and anime screenings!  And, if you've been really good this year, and you're old enough, maybe even an anime/techno dance party >_<.  Double Yay!  Make sure to check the Aniwave website for details... www.aniwave.com/
